OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

The purpose of CULINARY skill classes is to provide a club that provides a fun way of recreating delicious and nutritious snacks that are easy and accessible to make. 

EDUCATION STANDARDS

  1. Healthy choices and behavior
    1. The students experience following different recipes that are easy enough to be recreated. 
    2. Healthier options with a budget. 
  1. Diversity, access, and equity
    1. The students will be exposed to beverages from different cultures other than their own and learn how to recreate them and embrace them in their everyday life.
  2. Preparation
  1. Working around food handling serves as an experience for future part-time employment.
  2. Following certain procedures that help achieve a purpose.

IMPACT WILL BE HOSTING A COOKING TUTORIAL ON OCTOBER 8TH 2020. COME AND JOIN US TUESDAY OCTOBER 13, TO GET THE DETAILS AND DISCUSS IDEAS. ON OCTOBER 15TH WE WILL TURN THOSE IDEAS INTO REALITY. WE (IMPACT) WILL BE PROVIDING THOSE STUDENTS THAT WANT TO PARTICIPATE WITH A SPECIAL KIT THAT INCLUDES; CHOPSTICKS, SUSHI MATT, RICE, SEAWEED WRAP, & VEGETABLES.

What we're cooking: Mediterranean Inspired Pizza (Pita) Bread 
 
Ingredients: Oregano, thyme, olive oil, garlic, butter, tomato sauce, mozzarella or Monterey cheese,
pepperoni(meat of choice),veggies(mushrooms, bell peppers, onions), PITA bread

Dumpling:
 

INGREDIENTS:

Dough:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
 

FOR FILLING:

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 5-6 garlic cloves
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 handful fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a mixing bowl with the dough hook attachment, mix flour, salt, egg, milk, and water. Knead until the elastic ball forms for about 5-7 minutes. Cover and let it rest while you prepare the filling.
  2. Add all dry spices into ½ cup of water.
  3. Finely chop cilantro leaves and mince the garlic.
  4. In a medium bowl, put the ground beef and add water with spices, chopped cilantro, minced garlic, soy sauce and worcestershire sauce. Mix everything together. Mix really well.
  5. Cut a piece of dough and roll it into a thin round on a floured surface. Using a 2-inch cookie cutter, or a wine glass, like me, cut small rounds.
  6. Place about 1 teaspoons of beef filling on each round.
  7. Pinch the edges together creating a half moon. Now. pinch together the two ends to create a full moon.
 

TO BOIL DUMPLINGS

  • IN A LARGE POT, ADD A QUART OF WATER, COUPLE BAY LEAVES, A FEW BLACK PEPPERCORNS, AND SALT. BRING WATER TO A ROLLING BOIL.
  • ADD DUMPLINGS AND COOK FOR 10-15 MINUTES, STIRRING OCCASIONALLY, SERVE WITH BUTTER AND SOUR CREAM.
  • TO FRY THE DUMPLINGS, HEAT OIL IN A NONSTICK SKILLET OVER MEDIUM HEAT UNTIL HOT. ADD DUMPLINGS. COOK UNTIL THE BOTTOM SIDE TURNS GOLDEN. ADD 2 TABLESPOONS WATER, AND COVER. COOK UNTIL THE OTHER SIDE ALSO TURNS GOLDEN AND THE DUMPLINGS ARE COOKED THROUGH, 2 TO 3 MINUTES.
 
 

SAUCE:

  • MIX TOGETHER SOY SAUCE, RICE VINEGAR AND SESAME OIL.
  • SERVE WITH A SIDE OF VEGETABLES OR SALAD.

Red Enchiladas

 

Ingredients:

California Chilies

sour cream

lettuce

tortillas

Step by Step:

Step 1: Put your chilies, half onion, and oregano in a pot to boil,

Step 2: Take your cooked chicken and start to shred it

Step 3: On a pot, sprinkle some oil, take your tortilla put it into the sauce, and then unto pan with oil

Step 4: Take the chicken and stuff and then roll

Step 5: After you have all the rolled enchiladas top them with lettuce, sour cream, and queso fresco

Ingredients

Lesson Plan: Google Meet to show students how to make Teriyaki Chicken 


Step by Step 

Step 1: Take your chicken and cut it into pieces. Lightly add flour and put it on a pan on low heat. You should make sure you add nonstick spray or lightly add oil of your choice.

Step 2: While chicken is cooking, in a different pot, add 2 tbsp of soy sauce, 2 tbsp of honey, 2 tbsp of water, 2 tbsp of sugar, 1 tsp of sesame oil, a little piece of ginger, one clove of garlic sliced… let it heat up.

Step 3: After your chicken is golden brown or crispy of choice, pore the mixture of sauce on top and let it warm up a bit; the consistency should begin to thicken a bit.

whole milk/heavy cream

 

Lesson Plan: Google Meet to show students how to make an Egg scramble/Omelet 


Step by Step 

Step 1: Chop all ingredients of choice

Step 2: Mix two eggs with a teaspoon of milk and salt of choice

Step 3: Start by adding nonstick spray or a little bit of olive oil to pan; saute vegetables first along with the turkey meat

Step 4: Add the mixed eggs into the mixture.

Step 5: Wait until the eggs are cooked and serve with a side of toast or tortilla.

How to prepare sandwiches

  •  Sandwiches
  • 2 slice of bread
  • Mayo
  • Cheese
  • Turkey meat
  • Onions
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes


First step 

Take your choice of meat( turkey/ chicken/ ham) and grilled onions on a pan. Grill the onions first until they are caramelized and then add your meat until it is of your liking. 

 

Take your slices of bread and place them on a medium-hot skillet to warm up the bread.

After the bread is toasted, add mayo and the cheese. 

 

Place your meat w onions onto the slices of bread already prepared and add any other toppings desired. Toppings include lettuce, tomato, mustard/ketchup.

Virtual Field Trip:

Objective: To learn about new foods and cultures. Understand what differences there are amongst other people in this world.

What we're gonna be doing:

  • This is for everyone that loves food and/or history whether you can cook or not!

Most people think that Filipino Food is all this fatty unhealthy exotic Asian Food. This experience is going to change your mind.

I'll give you tips on where to get the ingredients needed and the replacement ingredients depending on where you are.

I will teach you how to cook a Filipino dish (Randomly selected or you can request what you like and we'll see what we can do.)

 

WHAT ARE WE COOKING?

  • Kare-Kare (vegetables and meat in peanut sauce)
  • Sisig (meat and tofu)
  • Sinigang (Filipino sour soup)
  • Adobo (meat)
  • Pancit (Filipino noodles)
  • Dessert(we can make Filipino Halo-halo or shaved ice, flan, or others)
  • Fish (we have a lot of easy to cook fish dish)
  • DO YOU WANNA LEARN HOW TO COOK RICE WITHOUT RICE COOKER? I CAN TEACH YOU!

If you are not that comfortable in the Kitchen or cooking is not for you, it's totally fine since watching me cook is okay while we talk about the history and background of the dish we are making.


Imagine eating something you made after learning how the dish was born into this world.
