This letter to our beloved LGHS has given me more than just tears, but a warmth in my heart as well.
Never a night have I seen the campus any Greener, nor seen so many old friends, their parents and their friends, nor new faces that will walk through these halls and cheer out “Go Dogs”! So many friends have I made since that great year of 1988… So many. But not as unforgettable as those I made in the short four years being at LeGrand HS. I too was there for the game and ‘re-union’, after the game… and looking around with my wife on my arm…so many memories, laughter and, yes, even some tears were seen from EVERYONE who attended both events. Even though it has been 21 years since I’ve stepped foot on this campus I called home for those four great years (1984-1988), I still remembered a lot of those teachers, baseball games, and classes I was in…just by walking on this awesome campus inspired ‘Bulldog Country’!
I remembered learning a new language as a senior, French, from Madam Gallo, remembering why I loved Math so much, and reinforced my love of Art… Now I am a Network Systems Specialist, plus a Graphic Designer… I can now speak Cantonese Chinese (and some Mandarin), some Mongolian, and a little bit Russian. LGHS has inspired me to do all these things and then some.
As the night went on, the Mexican music and the non-Mexican people seem to, in one night, join in and have a blast like never before… (Thanks Rene!)
Now that I’m in Silicon Valley, I never thought I’d ever see the day where I can answer my friends’ question, “Where do you work now? My answer; Yeah, I work in Silicon Valley…’. I guess you should never stop dreaming, even for a small town, Mexican kid like myself…cause you never know when one of you can also make it big. And I think even for this night, Le Grand seemed to have become a center of buzz…and not just for Homecoming. I am so glad I attended that night, because I got to see my niece Cynthia Murillo get Princess… I’m so proud of you Cindiy!!!
I still go ‘home’ once in a while, back to LeGrand…even if its just to my parent’s house, but whenever I see anyone from high school, or communicate with a classmate about yesteryears… I get misty-eyed… Thanks Danny & Dave for that. Or if it’s talking about then and now, I also lose track of time and see it is the middle of the night, even though I don’t want to go to bed… Thanks El.
Memories are for alum to hold on to and NEVER forget, the present are for those of you kids to hold on to and make memories of them later on in life to tell your kids, and grandchildren. Never forget where you came from, nor be ashamed where you’re at…
There’s a saying, ‘Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog’… I hold that to be true, as I also attended Fresno State myself (Class of ‘94), but would lift up a more favorable quote, to reveal my true Mexican heritage… Bulldog por Vida (for Life)! Happy Birthday Le Grand High, you never looked better, may you have another great and wonderful 100 years…here to inspire more teenagers like myself!
Muchas Gracias and 很多感谢
